Kids say the darndest things . . . .

Rhett's new favorite word is "awkward".  We don't say it very often so I was surprised to hear it come out of his mouth.  Turns out he learned it from two boys at school.  They make a farting noise with their mouths and then say, "awkward"!  The first time Rhett said it to me I was sing and being goofy to him and he said, "mom will you stop signing, it's awkward".  Pretty awesome! I totally busted up laughing.  He doesn't always use it in the right context but most of the time he does and it makes me crack up every time.

The other day I was putting away clothes in Rhett's closet which means my back was to the rest of the room.  He said, "Mom watch me" I turned around to see him standing on his bookshelf (luckily it is only about 3 ft. tall).  I said, "Rhett you shouldn't be up there".  His reply, "okay, don't watch then!"  Fantastic!

Another along the same lines . . . I walked passed his room and he was scaling the front of his dresser putting his toes in between the small cracks between the drawers.  Again I said, "Rhett you shouldn't be doing that"  He said, "you weren't supposed to see me".

Rhett thinks everything is a joke and is constantly teasing and laughing about things.  He always wants you to tell him something he did was funny and wanting you to laugh at his antics.  It is all fine and good until he is in trouble.  I don't remember what he did but I gave him the mom death look and he just busted up laughing at me and said, "mom, you look funny when you do that".

A couple weeks ago Rhett was having a major meltdown, tantrum.  One of the worst ones we have had, at least in a long time.  He was screaming and crying and completely out of control.  I had tried a number of things to get him to calm down to no avail.  I finally swatted him hoping to maybe snap him out of it.  In mid scream he made sure to tell me, "that didn't even hurt"!  I had to try not to laugh.  Seriously?!  Later when he finally calmed down and we were talking about why he was in time out etc.  He made sure to tell me again, just in case I didn't hear him the first time, that the spanking I gave him didn't hurt.

When Rhett is winning at something or he is really excited he says, "Rock and Roll Baby"!  I have no idea where he got it from.

Soda

I stopped drinking soda 11 years ago.  I drink water most of the time with an occasional Gatorade or Lemonade when I need some flavor.  Randy didn't drink a lot of soda either.  He would get one when he went out to eat but mostly he drank water and Rockstar. He recently stopped drinking Rockstars so he has started getting fountain drinks more often.  I usually took sips of Randy's soda here and there but now it is much more often.  Wow!  I forgot how good soda was!!  My sips are getting to be more like a portion of the cup. Randy always tells me he will get me mine own so that I don't drink his but I always tell him no.  I can't say I don't drink soda if I order one.  My 11 year streak will be over!  Last time we were at the gas station Randy came out of the store with two cups.

He said they were both for him, just in case.  I didn't drink the whole thing, I don't even think I drank half.  Can I still say I don't drink soda?  I am not so sure.

Staycation

Randy and I really wanted some time together and so we contemplated what we should do and where we should go.  We had a limited amount of time so we decided we didn't want to take time traveling.  We are so close to LA and have been for a long time but there are things we always say, "we should do that someday". So, we decided now was the time.  We had a very nice dinner and movie date night on Friday night.  Saturday morning we slept in (aaahhh!) grabbed breakfast and headed to the Getty Center.  It is an art museum in a beautifully architectured building and an AMAZING view of LA.  Unfortunately it was hazy so we couldn't quite see everything but it was still gorgeous.

It wasn't as hazy as it looks in these pictures.  For some reason the humidity affected my camera a lot.  The below picture is from my phone and ended up turning out better.  Strange.

Then we headed over to The Grove.  The mall was pretty but we were disappointed with the lack of stores.  However, the Farmer's Market did not dissapoint!  So many eating places, specialty shops, baked goods and I was so excited to score some bubblegum ice cream!!  I am serious!  I have always loved bubblegum ice cream and you can't find it anymore.  I was a happy girl with my bubblegum ice cream cone. :)

We headed home but stopped for dinner on our way.  We went to a place called "The Counter" where you order a customized burger.  Randy's favorite food on the face of the earth is a burger!  When I met Randy he was the PLAINEST eater in the WORLD! No exaggeration!  He ate plain burgers, cheese and meat only.  He ate no sauce on anything.  He basically ate about 10 things.  Now he is one of the most adventurous eaters I know.  Such a switch!  I am so glad, he is much more fun to take places now. :)  This is what Randy ordered:
Toppings include:  Jalapeno Jack Cheese, Bacon, Avocado, Hard Boiled Egg and Craisins on a Pretzel bun!

We enjoyed spending time together, having no time frame and being able to have uninterrupted conversation.  I am happy to say that after 9 years of marriage, with all our trials and struggles we really like each other and have fun being together!

Argh Matey!

This week was "X" week at school.  They learned all about the letter X, including X marks the spot on their pirate treasure map.  This is how Rhett came out of school on Friday.

 Happy 1st Birthday EZRA!!!!

Rhett and I flew home.  It was his first flight! Can you tell how excited he was? I was pretty excited to not have to make the drive again!

Bike Ride

We borrowed this awesome bike from Randy's brother.  It is basically a bike with out a front tire, instead you hook into onto your bike.  Rhett can ride a bike on his own but it is hard for him to go on long rides and we don't like him on the main streets.  This is so much fun for a family ride!

First Beach Day

The last day of Spring Break Liz and I took the kids to the beach.  It was so fun to be back at the beach.  Looking forward to a summer full of beach days!
