Christmas 2009

Christmas was so much fun this year! Rhett was so excited to see all his presents and had so much fun playing with them all day.
Mom and Dad gave him his Cozy Coupe Car that he LOVES! He sat in it all morning waving "bye" to us.
Later we went to Noni and Papa's (my parent's) where he got a train. You push the pedal and it goes around the track. He hasn't quite got the hang of the pedal so we put a piece of duct tape on it to hold it down and he was thrilled! I think he got a little dizzy from going around so many times!
Lastly was Nana and Grandpa's house (Randy's parents). He got a lawnmower!! Rhett LOVES lawnmowers. Ever since he could sit up he would sit in his stroller and watch Randy mow the lawn. Randy can't wait to mow the lawn now so Rhett can follow behind with his own mower. He will love it!
The whole day was so enjoyable. Watching Rhett's excitement and being with all of our family.

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve is at our house. We ate homemade soups, bread and salad. After dinner the Dads took the kids to look at Christmas lights while the Moms cleaned up the kitchen. When they got home the kids put on their matching jammies and we ate warm cookies while we read a Christmas story. It was such a nice evening.

Tongue Tied No More

Rhett's surgery went well. He was out for a total of 10 minutes. The doctor said everything went well. The only struggle was coming out of the anesthesia! He was a bit grumpy! Can't blame him, that is such a weird feeling, especially when you don't understand what is going on. He screamed! And screamed some more, and some more! He would scream that he wanted something. We would give it to him, he would scream. Once we got home, he was a little calmer, ate a bowl of oatmeal and then went down for a long winter's nap. He has been fine ever since.
The doctor said it would be about a month before he gets the hang of what to do with his tongue but he doesn't anticipate any issues.

Tongue Tied . . .literally

Rhett is tongue tied, it is a real thing, not just a saying. The skin that holds his tongue to the bottom of his mouth goes all the way to the tip of his tongue and is too short. It holds his tongue down so he can't lick his lips, touch the roof of his mouth with his tongue, stick his tongue out (that part isn't such a bad thing). This causes trouble with eating and speech. To correct it they just snip the skin to relax it's hold on his tongue then allowing his tongue to move more freely like it should. Unfortunately due to his age they have to put him under to do the procedure. He is too old to let them do what they need to do and hold still. So, his surgery is scheduled for Thursday, December 24th at 7am. Yep! That's right. The 12th surgery in the Bryce Family is scheduled.
Luckily, it is a simple procedure that will take minutes with a quick recovery. They expect him to eat normally and have pretty much no pain.

We are sorry we have passed on our random, weird surgery gene to you. Hopefully you will grow out of it before too long.

P.S. I know it is Christmas Eve and I hope you don't think we are the meanest parents ever for scheduling your surgery then but I am a very logical person (as you will come to find out) and logic won out in this case, as it does most times. Dad and I are both off of work Christmas Eve. We have a 4 day weekend to lovingly take care of you and we have already met our insurance deductible for the year so when they said they could get it done before the end of they year, we said, "sign us up". And honestly, right now you don't know the difference between Christmas Eve and any other day of the year. Thanks for understanding. Love, Mom.

A Day Off!

A couple of weeks ago, after the whole appendicitis issue I decided I needed a day off! I need some time away and a break from normal life. Randy and I needed some time together (not in a hospital), to talk and be like married people. My only requests were a meal where I didn't have to feed or clean up a toddler and a morning where I could sleep and get ready at my leisure with out putting my make-up on in the car. So we did it. And it was fabulous!
Friday afternoon I took Rhett to the Moody's (Randy's sister) for his first sleep over! Randy and I went to dinner at Medieval Times. It is a dinner theater set in the Medieval era. You eat with your hands while watching a Medieval-style tournament with games, sword fighting, jousting etc. It was really fun! It was nice to do something different. The food was pretty good, the entertainment was well done and we saw the most beautiful horses I have ever seen.

Saturday we slept in!!! So great! We leisurely got ready (as requested) and went to brunch. (Breakfast would have been too early on a day like this. Brunch was just perfect!) After a delicious brunch we went to a matinee. I love matinees! I don't know why. It is just so fun to watch a movie in the middle of the day. It feels a little bit like ditching school, like you should be doing something else but you get to escape away to a movie. Anyway, we saw Blindside. It was a really good show! (especially if you ask Randy . . . . inside joke.) It was one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. Gotta love a feel good football film.
After our movie we went and picked up little Rhett.
He had a good time with the Moody family and was reportedly the best little boy ever! He never cried once. Too bad he had an absolute melt down for us that night. I think he was storing it up and saved it just for his mom and dad!
We had a wonderful time and enjoyed each other.

I bet you . . .

I can eat 40 Reds BBQ (local restaurant with delicious rolls!) rolls in one sitting.

This bet has been long standing between Randy and our Brother-in-Law Nick and some other guys we used to work with. Randy finally attempted it. Unfortunately he only ate 20! He said the garlic on the rolls was making him so sick! Excuses ... Excuses! Honestly Randy isn't a fan of garlic at all. He said that he still couldn't eat 40 but the new bet is 30 plain rolls, no garlic. Red's said they would make rolls especially for Randy, anyway he wanted when he is ready to try it again.

Temple Lights

We went with the youth of our ward to see the Christmas lights up at the LA Temple. Rhett LOVES Christmas lights! We had a great time.

Sea World

We took a trip to San Diego for the day and met Lovios and Reeves at Sea World. Rhett loved the shows and looking at all the animals. He didn't like touching them though! My big tough boy!!! He loves playing with Sydney and they had a great time at the Sesame Street play area. It was great to get away and spend sometime together as a family and with friends.

Dream Truck

Randy had a Ford Ranger that he loved but we got rid of it when I was pregnant with Rhett so that he could fit a car seat. He wanted a full size truck but at the time gas was $4plus a gallon and so I talked him into a four door mini pick up. He got the Chevy Colorado. He thought it would be okay but after driving it for a short time reality set in and he was unhappy! It was just too small. Especially the bed. It came to be known as "the wheelbarrow" because the bed was so small it was pretty much good for nothing. Well, there is no better time to buy a car so we sold the Colorado, bought his dream truck and still came out ahead!! Can't beat that.
