a short story about gas, pjs, and a short brisk walk . . .

7:12am is when I woke up Saturday morning. A whole hour later than normal. So exciting! Rhett usually wakes up closer to 6am but he was kind to me this morning and slept an extra hour. What could be better on a Saturday morning! I needed to be to my sisters to watch her two girls for her by 9am. I decided that I wouldn't shower but instead play with Rhett a little longer and then just shower at my sisters while I was watching the girls. We enjoyed playing for a time and then I started packing the car. You know packing to be gone for the day with a baby is not a light load. I also had my stuff to get ready and some misc. things to return to my sister, sister-in-law and a project for the kids to do . . basically the idea is I had a full car of stuff. I load Rhett up and jump in the car to go. Then I remember, as the light blinks at me, I need gas. Dang it! I am in my pajamas!! So I think for a minute, do I go change, and put actual clothes on or do I just get gas in my pajamas? I think, how embarrassing, these aren't cute jammies, I look ridiculous, but then . . really? who am I going to see anyway, it's the gas station for goodness sakes! So, laziness wins out and I decide to go ahead and go in my pajamas. I take off. I am a couple blocks away from my house and all of a sudden . . . . . . . my car dies . . .I ran out of gas!!!! ugh!!! I am in my pajamas. I immediately think, this is what you are always told, don't go anywhere with dirty underwear or with out shoes or with out your purse because you might get in an accident or your car might break down. Note to self, listen to that advice next time. It could be worse, I am only a couple blocks away from my house. So I take Rhett out of the car, put him in the stroller and walk a couple blocks back to my house, in my pajamas in the freezing, artic morning (really 40 degrees which anywhere else might be fine but here in CA, that is as unbearably cold!) I get Randy's truck, drive back to my car, unload from my car to his car and hit the road again. Where is Randy during all this you ask? LAS VEGAS! He is always unavailable when I break down. Luckily no one had to come rescue me this time. And just a note, I didn't really run out of gas, well I did, but it really wasn't my fault. My car said I had an 1/8th of a tank. This has happened a few times lately. We thought the problem was fixed, but apparently not. It seems my car tells me I have gas when I really don't. Another note to self, do what my dad says and don't let the tank go below a 1/4. From now on, that is the plan. And let's pray this stops happening to me!!!! Running out of gas is so ANNOYING!!

4 months and growing

Rhett had his 4 month check up last week. He is 14lbs. 7 oz. and 25 1/4 inches long. He is very alert and loves you to talk to him, play with him and sing to him. He has found his voice and loves to use it!! He plays with his toys, is discovering the dogs, and loves his mom and dad. I am sure he won't always. :)

Salt Lake City, Round 2

A couple of weeks ago we made another trip to Utah. This one was for Kylie and Cody's SLC open house. The open house was Friday night and then we spent the rest of the weekend site seeing some of the favorite spots in SLC. It was cold but not freezing and no snow. I was actually disappointed. I am not a fan of snow normally, but it is pretty and fun to visit. And really, if I am going to go to Utah in December I should get some snow! No sooner did we get home and they got snow. Darn it! Oh well. We had fun anyway. Here are a few pics of the trip.

Kylie & Cody Fitts

November 14th my little sister Kylie was married to Cody Fitts in the Los Angeles Temple. It was a beautiful sealing ceremony and reception. Good food, dancing and yummy cupcakes . . . what else could you want at a wedding reception! It was a great time! A LOT of work but a good time. Kylie lives in Utah so my mom and older sister and I did most of the planning and carrying out of the big day. My posts are a little off b/c I was waiting to post about the wedding until I got pictures but we were in Utah for Randy's Aunt's funeral the entire week before the wedding and got back into town the day before Kylie went through the temple for her endowments and 3 days before the wedding! By the end of the marathon I was beat! It took a couple of days to recover. Speaking of the endowments, I never mentioned, that was the first time we left Rhett. His first babysitter was his Uncle Jeff! Weird you might think, that we left him with his Uncle, not an Aunt or a female of some sort. Uncle Jeff is the BEST babysitter! He LOVES little kids and loves Rhett b/c he is the first boy in the family. :) Jeff rocked Rhett to sleep and when we came home Rhett and Jeff were asleep together laying side by side! So cute! I really wasn't nervous at all. I knew he was in good hands.
Anyways . . totally off topic . . . here are some pictures from Kylie's wedding. She made a beautiful bride!

Rhett's 1st Haircut

Randy has been threatening to shave Rhett's head since he was about 3 weeks old. He was partially kidding but in the last few days I knew he was getting more serious. I was holding out b/c I loved his full head of hair and of course, the mohawk! However, I was definitely afraid of being one of those moms! You know, those moms that are too afraid to cut their kids hair and so they have this kid with patches of long hair among bald patches. After taking a good look at him today I realized we were about there.
I held Rhett on my lap and held his little head still while he screamed and cried and Randy cut away.

BEFOREDisclaimer: when his hair is combed it doesn't look nearly as bad as these picture make it seem! I promise!!

DURING
AFTER
He looks so much older to me. Like a little boy! So cute though!!

Bad Pictures once again, sorry. Darn Camera! After Christmas we should have better pics. And go ahead and ignore my ugly fireplace in the background. It will be redone as soon as possible!

Home Improvements . . .

No, these aren't our home improvements, although I wish they were. We are doing some but I will wait to show pics until we are all done . . which hopefully will be sooner rather than later. :)
Anyways . . . my brother-in-law works construction building custom homes. He is going to be out of work for a month or so as they are in between jobs. He does pretty much anything with wood, he is very talented. Normally he frames homes, does all kinds of custom detail work, sets doors, window casings, door casings, baseboards, crown molding, patio covers etc.
I thought I would put this info out there just in case anyone was thinking of doing some home improvements or knows someone who is. If you are interested let me know and I will get you his name and number.

Thanks! I appreciate it.
